Konna is a small village located at 70 Km from Mopti on the Niger River bank.
On January 2013, Konna was captured by the Islamists. The attack triggered French intervention in the war, and with their aid the Malian Governmental Forces swiftly launched a counterattack to retake the town. A street bear the name of the French Sergent, Damien Boiteau, the first french victim of that war to save Mali.
Konna has a weekly market is held in the town on Thursdays that attracts many people from the surrounding settlements.
